These seemingly impossible figures, here depicted in graphic black and white, by Stockholm based artist Matti Kallioinen are representative of Kallioinen’s practice which is one that explores principles related to mathematics, philosophy, music and engineering through deceptively straightforward imagery.

Kallioinen mixes mediums and methods resulting in work as varied as performance, installations, painting, sound pieces and sculptures. Often times exploring processes behind our perception of the comprehensible, such as a seemingly simple line disappearing into itself upon closer study.
